Every five years, the National Center for Scientific Research organizes an International Congress, whose 17th edition will be held in the year 2020. This event will bring together a large number of national and foreign specialists, with the aim of discussing the issues developed by the institution and other related issues, and also for reserving a space for the exhibition of innovative products and technologies from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The 17th International Scientific Congress CNIC 2020 takes the theme "For a healthy life" with emphasis on scientific research in the field of products of natural origin and environmental protection, promoting the exchange of experiences, the presentation of results and the discussion on topics related to scheduled activities. CNIC 2020 "For a healthy life" will be an excellent opportunity to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of our institution, surrounded by the famous Cuban hospitality and enjoying one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This event will also encourage the creation of spaces for scientific-technical collaboration and integration between the academic and industrial sectors and will contribute to the dissemination and acceptance of new products, methods, trends and technologies, within an appropriate scientific framework.

CNIC 2020 WELCOME The National Center for Scientific Research invites you to participate in the 17th International Scientific Congress CNIC 2020, which under the motto "For a healthy life", will take place in Varadero, from June 23 to 26, 2020. The event includes the following symposiums:
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HEALTH FROM NATURE This symposium will cover everything from the processes of obtaining active ingredients from natural sources to the final registration of new medicines or nutritional supplements for well-being and health. Both in the form of posters and conferences will be presented in this symposium the most recent work that has been developed in the topics of procurement, purification, characterization, stability, formulation, pharmacological and toxicological characterization, clinical evaluation and sanitary registration; jobs in which you can see the use of both traditional methods and the latest technologies that are currently applied in this industry.
VII INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT SYMPOSIUM A symposium promoting a fruitful exchange of experiences and scientific ideas, as well as updating knowledge in research related to the environment, debating issues such as Environment and Development; Water Treatments, Wastewater and Solid Waste; Water Treatment with Ozone; Environmental management; Environmental education; Renewable energy; Studies of Corrosion and Deterioration of Materials, Quality and the Environment, among others.
8TH INTERNATIONAL OZONE APPLICATIONS SYMPOSIUM A symposium will be the framework to learn about the latest research in the field of ozone chemistry, preclinical ozone research, ozone therapy, ozonated vegetable oils and their applications, applications of ozone and ozonated products in veterinary medicine, substances ozonated with biological activity, ozone applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries, ozone generating systems, ozonation of substrates and premises, other applications of ozone.
V SYMPOSIUM ON INFECTIOUS DISEASES Diagnosis, prevention and treatment, with the theme "latest advances in research and treatment of infectious diseases" will address current issues on infectious diseases and the development of novel strategies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. It will deal with issues related to diseases of great incidence and relevance to human health, caused by bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi; as well as, the impact of emerging pathogens and the increase of antimicrobial resistance.

Professor Harald zur Hausen was a recipient of the 2008 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the human papilloma virus (HPV) causing cervical cancer. His studies allowed to develop the currently available vaccine against the HPV. Currently, he is a Senior Scientific Consultant at the Research Group of Episomal-Persistent DNA in Cancer- and Chronic Diseases at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg
PROFESSOR ETHEL-MICHELE DE VILLIERS
Professor Ethel-Michele de Villiers is an eminent virology. She identified many new types of papillomaviruses and investigated their role in carcinogenesis. Currently, she is a Senior Scientific Consultant at the Research Group of Episomal-Persistent DNA in Cancer- and Chronic Diseases at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg

CUBA´S CUSTOMS RULES
In order to enter into and departure from Cuba, an individual will be needed a six-month validity Passport, tourist card or visa and a round-trip ticket. Upon arriving in Cuba, José Martí´s airport immigration officials will request passport, round-trip ticket and tourist card or visa.
TOURIST CARD OR VISA
It is mandatory to hold a tourist card or visa to enter into Cuba. Upon buying your round-trip ticket, you must request the travel agency or the Cuban diplomatic representation based in your country the tourist card or visa in order to enter into Cuba. Visa for Cuba is valid for 30 days. Whether your stay in the Caribbean Island exceeded the respective 30 days, you should renew your tourist card or visa. This legal procedure must be carried out at the available immigration offices of Cuban provinces´ capitals and must meet the following: a prior CUC tax payment in stamps which are available to buy at Metropolitan Bank branches.
MEDICAL INSURANCE
The Cuban government demands a Medical Travel Insurance covered by Medical Expenditures and valid for the whole stay period. All those paeople who are interested in travelling to Cuba are obliged to provide a Medical Insurance covering all medical expenditures in case of either a disease or accident.
OFFICIAL CURRENCY
The Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC) is the official circulating currency in Cuba. It can be obtained upon arriving the country, at the airport, hotels, Banks and currency exchange offices (Cadecas). The exchangeable international currencies are: Euro, US and Canadian dollar, Sterling Pound, Swiss Francs, Mexican Pesos and Japanese Yen, in accordance with the current exchange rate.
CREDIT CARDS
You can also use credit cards as VISA, MASTERCARD and CABAL, as long as they are not drawn from a U.S. bank.
SAFETY
Cuba is a very safe nation.
WEATHER
Cuba has a moderate sub-tropical weather. Havana and the western provinces have a chillier and nicer weather than in the Eastern region.
